Representatives from the Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP) headed to London today (17 October) for a major two-day investment and property event, promoting opportunities across the emerging Oxford-Milton Keynes-Cambridge Growth Corridor.
OxLEP is teaming-up with councils, businesses, England’s Economic Heartland and other local enterprise partnerships – including SEMLEP and the Buckinghamshire Thames Valley LEP – to highlight key investment openings at MIPIMUK, one of the premier national property events in the UK.
Whilst at MIPIMUK, the group – supported by UK Property Forums – aim to position the Growth Corridor clearly in the minds of global investors, promote that ‘UK PLC’ can capitalise on the Corridor’s various sector and economic strengths and proactively follow the National Infrastructure Commission’s position that the Corridor’s growth potential should be made ‘a national priority’.
Nigel Tipple, Chief Executive of OxLEP, said: “Leveraging the two internationally-renowned cities of Oxford and Cambridge – on a global scale – will not only support the UK economy to make the most of what this wider region has to offer in terms of growth and productivity, but will also emphasise the ‘place potential’ offered right across the Corridor.”
Oxfordshire’s economy is one of best-performing economies in the UK, with a GVA of £23bn per year – one of just three net contributors to the exchequer.
Since it was launched in 2011, OxLEP – with its partners – has secured over £600m-worth of government funding for Oxfordshire, with around 43,000 new jobs created in the county between 2012 and 2016. In total, OxLEP currently oversees a £2.2bn growth programme for the county.
Last month, OxLEP took Oxfordshire's economy to Westminster for its first-ever House of Commons economic briefing. A further briefing is scheduled for January next year.
Whilst at MIPIMUK, representatives from OxLEP will be taking part in a number of key debates and discussions, as well as hosting a number of breakout sessions – along with partners – on its exhibition stand (location E09/F10).
