OxLEP appoints Harwell Campus’ Angus Horner, following its latest Board meeting
The Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP) has announced the appointment of a new non-executive director to its Board, following its latest meeting on 12 June.
Angus Horner – Director of Harwell Science and Innovation Campus – will become OxLEP’s Business Board representative for the Science Vale area, one of two government-backed enterprise zones in Oxfordshire.
Mr Horner will formally take-up his non-executive director role with immediate effect and will serve on OxLEP’s Board for the next three years.
OxLEP Chief Executive Nigel Tipple welcomed Mr Horner’s appointment and added that the new director will have the opportunity to play a key role in further developing an economy that has ‘genuine’ international strengths and opportunities.
Mr Tipple said: “We are delighted to welcome Angus to our Board and believe his energy, experience and knowledge will be a real asset to us, as we continue to support our growing economy for the benefit of both Oxfordshire and ‘UK PLC’.
“In the coming months, we will undoubtedly see exciting developments in relation to the county’s £215million Housing and Growth Deal and building on the National Infrastructure Commission’s ‘Oxford-Cambridge Corridor’ recommendations. This, on top of boosting Oxfordshire and UK productivity through the development of a comprehensive Local Industrial Strategy.
“As a new director to our Board, Angus will play a major role in ensuring Oxfordshire remains at the heart of a future ‘internationally-facing’ economy for the UK – with Science Vale playing a significant part as a key global asset.”
Since its inception in 2011, OxLEP – with its partners – has secured over £600m-worth of government funding for Oxfordshire, which has seen more than 40,000 new jobs created in the county to-date.
In total, OxLEP currently oversees a £2.2bn growth programme for Oxfordshire.
Angus Horner added: “I am delighted to join the OxLEP team just as this region accelerates into a hugely exciting growth phase.
“Oxfordshire is a global knowledge economy hot spot that feeds growth throughout the UK and abroad. This county’s people have been and remain world leaders in multiple fields including science, the humanities and the arts.
“That said, I am acutely aware that whilst our community includes some of the most-celebrated, brightest minds and many of the UK’s wealthiest people, they live alongside families and individuals who struggle on a daily basis.
“I hope we can help to propel everyone forwards in a way that maximises the current and next generation’s opportunities for excellent education and a wide selection of rewarding careers; inside a place that retains the best of its wonderful heritage and landscape, whilst still creating infrastructure fit for the 21st century.”
