As National Careers Week (6 to 11 March) reaches its conclusion, young people from across the UK will be looking back on six days where they have been able to take a more detailed look into the type of career openings available to them and indeed, the businesses best-set to meet their future ambitions.
It’s no different in Oxfordshire. Thousands of teenagers and young adults are mapping their potential career paths – whether it’s via researching key businesses online, speaking to friends or parents, or by signing-up to open events to get a taste of what a company could offer them,
At OxLEP, for several years – alongside our key partner organisations – via dozens of Oxfordshire schools, we have been leading the charge in bringing together young people and stand-out businesses from across the county through Careers Fest, showcasing to them the incredible careers opportunities that exist.
Led by our Oxfordshire Careers Hub, Careers Fest has the genuine ability to inspire young people into their future careers.
Visitors to Careers Fest get the rare opportunity of not only speaking to leading figures within top-class businesses representing leading sectors across Oxfordshire, but also – in many cases – get ‘up close and personal’ with the products, projects and services those companies are developing on a daily basis.
The event provides young people with the critical information needed to help them to shape imminent decisions on career paths, whether it’s the type of qualifications desired by businesses or details of key training programmes, like apprenticeships, that those companies are running and looking to recruit towards.
Over the years, many organisations who have exhibited at Careers Fest have found great young talent too, supporting their own business ambitions whatever they may be.
The event truly is a great success and has become an established date in the diaries of Oxfordshire schools, dozens of the county’s businesses and – most-importantly – our young people, eager to understand what the future could hold for them.
This year’s Careers Fest is just a few days away, taking place at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford across 22 and 23 March. This includes a special ‘twilight session’ for parents and carers – alongside the younger members of the families – on 22nd, taking place between 3.30pm and 6.30pm.
It’s expected that an incredible 4,000 students will attend the event across the two days with around 75 exhibitors on-hand to share their incredible employment opportunities in Oxfordshire.
This year’s event is being headline-sponsored by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and A-Plan Insurance, with support from the Careers & Enterprise Company.
