The government has said that it needs at least 30,000 ventilators so that the NHS can cope with the Covid-19 patients that are so bad that they need to be treated in NHS hospitals.
Abingdon-based Penlon is a world-leading company developing and manufacturing anaesthesia and other medical products for worldwide distribution. It has joined forces with UK industrial, technology and engineering businesses from across the aerospace, automative and medical sectors to form the VentilatorChallengeUK consortium. By combining their focus on enterprise and excellence in innovation, Penlon ESO 2 Emergency Ventilators are their response to the government’s request for support.
Penlon ESO 2 Emergency Ventilators have arrived at the NHS Nightingale, London with other units being dispatched to NHS hospitals throughout the UK. These ventilarors are being installed in addition to at least 160 Penlon Anaesthetic Machines that had already been sent to London hospitals, including 85 in the new NHS Nightingale London. Manufacturing continues at pace.
The Penlon Service and Applications team provides on-site support seven days a week for NHS Nightingale and London COVID-19 hospitals that have Penlon systems installed.
As well as responding to the UK national crisis, Penlon continues to support other countries in their efforts where they can.
Nigel Tipple, Chief Executive of OxLEP, says: “There’s no doubting our county has a genuine ability to adapt to new situations. Our companies are good at reacting to change and being innovative. It may not seem like it now, but this crisis will come to an end and Oxfordshire will still be the great place it always has been to do business.”
