Health Economics in Digital Health

The one-day SME event will introduce key concepts in health economic evaluation.
TheHill’s NHS Market Access Accelerator programme includes 6 months of workshops and 1:1 support, including business advice, clinical opinions and a deep dive into NHS structures, reimbursement and access routes. We also offer support at two levels: one for start-ups with a beta product, ready to engage with the NHS; and one for start-ups at an earlier stage of development who need to refine their value
The Oxford Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) is an innovation exchange transforming clinical practice, improving patient safety, outcomes and experience, and generating economic growth through collaboration between the NHS, industry, and universities.
About the event
The one-day event is designed for SMEs and will introduce key concepts in health economic evaluation: outcomes, costs, evidence and modelling, uncertainty and decision-making. We will place specific emphasis on considerations relevant to digital health technologies, as well as other non-pharmaceutical interventions such as medical devices and diagnostics. For example, our discussion of outcomes will include an introduction to NICE’s preferred measure, the quality-adjusted life year (QALY), as well as a discussion of when the outcome measures expected might be different for non-pharmaceutical interventions.
In our discussion of costs, we will place particular emphasis on how non- pharmaceutical devices may be able to significantly offset reductions in other types of health care resource usage. In evidence and modelling, we will discuss how ‘real world evidence’ may be useful in the evaluation of some non-pharmaceutical interventions, and challenges in collecting this evidence.
